Sophie’s Place Child Advocacy Centre – Kandy Cantwell

To celebrate the spirit of the holiday season, all of us at Montridge have selected a cause close to our hearts to donate to.

Sophie’s Place Child Advocacy Centre – Kandy Cantwell

I knew from the start that my donation would be child-advocacy based.  Turning to my sister-in-law, a social worker, I asked for help finding a non-profit with a fantastic reputation.

Did you know:

  • More than 60% of child abuse cases go unreported
  • 90% of abusers are known to their child victims
  • Children with disabilities are 4 times more likely to experience violence vs. their non-disabled peers
  • Adults in Canada are legally obligated to report child abuse

Sophie’s Place, based in Surrey BC, is dedicated to children aged 0-18 who are victims of physical, mental or sexual abuse.  Opened in 2012, it provides a safe space for kids to communicate, and provides an unique opportunity for the Surrey RCMP and the Ministry to investigate allegations of abuse.
