To celebrate the spirit of the holiday season, all of us at Montridge have selected a cause close to our hearts to donate to.
YWCA Single Mothers’ Support Services – Judith Mewhort
My choice of an organization to support was influenced by the experience of a family member. A relative had the love and support of her extended family to help her overcome the circumstances she found herself in and allowed her to make a fresh start for herself and her children. Unfortunately, many women do not have an extended family to provide support and that is where the YWCA’s program can provide much needed assistance.
Did you know that Single moms are the poorest of any family type in BC — half of single mother-led families are living in poverty.
Single mothers face barriers to safe, affordable housing and are the most likely people in our community to go hungry.
But research tells us that single moms aren’t living in poverty because of poor personal choices. They are disadvantaged because of a combination of factors.
The YWCA offers 15 support groups across the Greater Vancouver Metro Area, as well as support for children who witness abuse, and individual support.
