Government of Canada announces CPP amendments
Employment and Social Development Canada has released a backgrounder detailing four new amendments to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) that came into effect on January 1, 2025. These amendments, agreed upon in principle by federal and provincial finance ministers, introduce modest changes to the CPP without affecting the minimum contribution rates.
Lawsuit alleges feds prevented part-time RCMP officers from buying back into pension plan
The National Police Federation, representing 20,000 Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers, has filed a class action lawsuit against the federal government, alleging wrongful prevention of part-time officers from buying back into their pension plan. According to the federation's press release, the majority of these part-time officers were women who had reduced their hours for various reasons.
